Blandford and Stour Rotary Club Makes a Significant Impact Through Donations to Local, Regional and International Charities and Causes in Rotary Year 2024 / 2025
Under the leadership of President Jim Atkins, The Blandford and Stour Rotary Club has had considerable success with its continued support of the local, regional and International community through a series donations made throughout 2024 / 2025. This year, the club has donated an impressive £19,022 to various charities, community initiatives, and good causes,
The club is traditionally focussed on supporting charities and good causes in the immediate Blandford area but it does also give its support to some regional and International groups.
This year we have continued our long-term support to the Kimmta School in the middle of a poor area of Nairobi, Kenya. The club has supported the school over many years and it is intensely satisfying to hear how so many of its students have gone on higher education and beyond. A true success story.
Continuing our long term commitment to international projects, we again donated funds to the Birthing Centre we helped in Nepal.
We also had a very good response to our Shoe Box Appeal. This year they went to deprived children in Romania.
Closer to home we were able to make a substantial donation to the Sommerset and Dorset Air Ambulance. We were able to do this following a very successful fund raising event at Gorcombe Extreme Sports in Thornicombe. Our thanks to the Meaden Family for their help and support.
However, our main efforts were made locally where we managed to help over twenty local charities and good causes. This help ranged from funding the accommodation for struggling families to have a weeks holiday at Rockley Park to help fund a new path on the extension to the Milldown recreation area in Blandford and many other donations in between.
So, all together, the Club had a very good and successful year.
The Rotary Club is always looking for new members to join in its mission of “Service Above Self.” Those interested in making a meaningful difference in their community, developing leadership skills, and being part of a global network of dedicated individuals are encouraged to get involved.
“The significance of Rotary is that it has become one of the most active and effective lay forces on the side of righteousness, co-operation and goodwill.”
